53 Years of Iconography Experience
Robert Basil Gerwing, was born in 1952.
For over fifty years he has supplied Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches and individuals with icons. For as long as he can remember he has been enamored with Sacred Art.
At the age of 18 he entered an Orthodox monastery in Grass Lake, Michigan where he studied under the tutelage of monks working in the style of Photios Kontoglou.
He has painted numerous churches around the United States. Many of these were complete interiors replete with icons placed within all liturgical spaces.
Additionally, the Studio has executed several large-scale exterior mosaics as well as a multitude of panel icons.
Robert has also taught at the University of Pittsburgh and, for the past fifteen years, has been an adjunct professor at Chatham University where he offers courses in Architectural History.
